Whlist investigating stellar phenomena Commander Riker apparently dies when the Enterprise encounters an apparent temporal paradox which is in fact not what it seems—as well as a Ferrengi captain with a new secret weapon who enters a verbal sparring match with Picard and picks off random crew members, threatens to cause a big political ruckus, and reprograms Data while Wesley is precocious so Data figures something out, which means everything turns out okay, and the planet is saved in the nick of time. Then, finally Data says something smug and they leave at warp factor six.
