Whlist studying a pre-warp civilization the guest star encounters something shapeless which tries to destroy Earth and reprograms Data while Wesley is precocious so they do nothing and so Riker delivers a phaser blast, which means everything turns out okay, and Data learns a little more about the human condition. Then, finally Troi says something irrelevant and they leave at warp factor one.
